Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine
Joseph Hancock, M.D., received his undergraduate education at the University of Southern C California in Los Angeles, completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences in 1972. He attended medical school at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico from 1972-1974 before attending Hahnemann University, now known as Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1974-1977. Dr. Hancock served his Internal Medicine Residency at Hahnemann University and Hospital from 1977-1979 and at the University of Southern California from 1979-1980. Dr. Hancock is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine
After completing his residency, Dr. Hancock joined the United States Navy in 1980, inducted as a Lieutenant. He was promoted in rank to Lieutenant Commander in 1982 and continued to serve with the United States Navy until he was honorably discharged from military service in 1990. During his stint with the Navy, Dr. Hancock offered his expertise to young medical prospects as a Professor for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland from 1980-1982, at East Virginia Medical School from 1982-1984, and at the University of California from 1984-1990. He also taught at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center from 2001-2008.
In addition to earning his medical degree, Dr. Hancock attended Texas Wesleyan University where he studied law and earned his Juris Doctor in 1998.
Dr. Hancock’s wife, Jennifer L. Hancock is an Attorney at Law and they have 6 children, Kimberly, Chandler, Kaitlin, Jonathan, Kendrick, and Jaelin.
