Sameer Islam was born in Malone, New York but grew up in his home town of Odessa, Texas. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated with honors. He completed both his medical degree (MD) and masters of business association (MBA) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and Texas Tech Rawls School of Business, respectively. After completing his internal medicine training at Texas Tech University, he was accepted to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona to train in Gastroenterology. His medical interests include Barrett’s esophagus, inflammatory bowel disease, and small bowel diseases.
He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society, American Gastroenterology Association (AGA), American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD). He has numerous publications and abstracts and has presented at both national and international meetings on various gastrointestinal topics. He was also the recipient of the Digestive Disease Weeks (DDW)’s Gender Diversity Award.
He is married with three beautiful children. In his free time, he trains in Crossfit and is a certified Crossfit judge. Additionally he is an avid reader and traveler. You can follow his twitter feed
