Physicians Sleep Center is proud to announce the opening of the newest and most advanced medical sleep facility in the Lubbock region. Opened in October, Physicians Sleep Center is dedicated to helping restore quality sleep into daily lives.

Experts agree that sleep is vital to overall health, yet for an estimated one-third of Americans who suffer from a sleep disorder, a good nights rest is unattainable. Due to the increasing rate of obesity, a risk factor for one of the most common types of sleep disorders, Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome, the Sleep field has grown exponentially. Sleep Apnea occurs when the soft tissue at the rear of the throat collapses and closes during sleep, constricting the airway. Some patients may be treated with a Continuous Positive Airflow Pressure (CPAP). The CPAP delivers air into the airway through a specially designed nasal mask and is considered the most effective non-surgical treatment for the alleviation of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. If obstructive sleep apnea is left untreated it could be attributed to hypertension, diabetes, stroke, heart attack, and death.

According to the National Institutes of Health, more that 12 million Americans are afflicted by a sleep disorder. Physicians Sleep Center provides confidential diagnosis and is designed to treat a broad range of sleep disorders from Sleep Apnea, Insomnia, Narcolepsy, Restless Leg Syndrome, and snoring.

Physicians Sleep Center is the first sleep center in the region to use the most technologically advanced equipment in the field of sleep medicine. The Sandman Elite is the only sleep software that uses the American Academy of Sleep Medicine guidelines. The Sandman Elite system ensures that all the data recorded and analyzed is accurate throughout the study. During the study, tests are run that measure respiratory rates, blood oxygen, brain waves and muscle movement. Sleep Studies are conducted by a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). The RRT has received specialized training and is registered by both the National Board for Respiratory Care and by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists. Sleep Study results are read by a physician who is board certified by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Physicians Sleep Center adheres to American Academy of Sleep Medicine standards and is currently in the process of Accreditation to provide the gold standard of sleep medicine.
