We know no one wants to talk about a colonoscopy, much less get one, but screenings work. According to the American Cancer Society*, colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women but is also largely reversible. Regular screenings can actually prevent many cases and, if found and treated early, the 5-year survival rate is 90%.

If you’re over 50, have a family history of colon cancer or your doctor recommends a colonoscopy, contact Southwest Gastroenterology. We’ll make it as pleasant as a colonoscopy can be.

Welcome to UMC Southwest Gastroenterology

From newborns to grandparents, UMC Southwest Gastroenterology has the staff and physicians to care for you and your entire family. We specialize in preventing, diagnosing and treating conditions related to the digestive/gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The digestive tract includes the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines (colon), pancreas and liver. We also provide expert nutritional information to help treat various symptoms you might be experiencing.

We appreciate you taking the time to view our web site and invite you to read more about the services we provide as well as individual biographies for our adult and pediatric providers. We’ve also included a link to information about most gastrointestinal problems, diseases and procedures via the American College of Gastroenterology.

If you have any remaining questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call 806.761.0747.

Electronic Health Records

Through PNS’s electronic health record (EHR), your medical record will be updated during each examination to reflect the results of your visit, any medications prescribed and will detail any laboratory or X-ray services provided. EHRs are designed to contain and share information from all of the providers involved in the patient’s care. EHR data allows for all authorized medical providers to view your medical history when necessary for coordination of your care.

MyTeamCare – Your Access to Your Medical Records

For up-to-date access to your health information, including your office visits, prescriptions, and lab results, ask the staff at your next office visit to register you for MyTeamCare. They will sign you up for this free, secure service and you will receive this information via your mobile device such as your iPad or iPhone. All they will need from you is your email address and a 4 digit PIN. You will get an email from MyTeamCare and then you will be able to complete your registration at that time.
